The most famous illustrations of Les Misérables are those of French painter and illustrator Gustave Brion (1824–1877) for the first edition of Victor Hugo’s novel Les Misérables, for which he created the first portrayal of Inspector Javert. Other famous Les Mis illustrators are: Pierre Georges Jeanniot (1848–1934), Fortuné Méaulle (1844-1916) and François Flameng (1856-1923)
