Paris has an important role in Les Misérables’ plot. Hugo provides detailed itineraries of his characters, and a large number of different sites and streets are mentioned in the novel while Hugo makes clear that the “faubourgs” are as important parts of the city as are Champs-Elysées, rue de Rivoli, Palais Royal, or rue Saint-Honoré.
